Pop Culture Odds and Ends – A Day Late, Hopefully Not a Dollar Short Edition

Hopefully no one is too discombobulated by the schedule change and the pop culture roundup appearing on Thursday instead of Wednesday. It is my sincere hope that it was worth the extra day. While we’re discussing scheduling, I’ve been toying with the idea of making the pop culture odds and ends post a weekly, rather than biweekly, affair. It’s a lot of work to put these together and it might be more manageable to assemble – and for you to read – if I did it every week. I know all the links can be a little overwhelming. If you have strong feelings one way or another, sound off in the comments and let me know what you prefer.

You’ve waited long enough….without any further ado, take a stroll through the world of pop culture by checking out some of the stories that you might have missed:

  • Footage of Solange Knowles attacking brother-in-law Jay Z on an elevator has surfaced:

  • CBS and ABC have announced their Fall schedules. So has The CW. I am once again reminded how little network TV I watch.
  • NBC’s musical next year will be The Music Man. Snooze. Peter Pan will debut in December. Double snooze.
  • John Krasinski and Emily Blunt make a pretty damn adorable baby:

  • Well this news is disappointing: FX has cancelled Legit, starring the hilarious Jim Jefferies. They have also cancelled Chozen, which I am indifferent to.

  • This is from earlier this year: some guy on Price is Right did Gob’s chicken dance:

  • CBS doesn’t run on Heather time – they released their trailers for their new Fall programs too late to be included in yesterday’s post. You can check them out here.
  • Alec Baldwin arrested for riding his bike the wrong way and then reacting like you would expect Alec Baldwin to when stopped.
  • This handy guide tells you how long it will take you to binge-watch popular shows.
  • We have our first glimpse of Ben Affleck’s Batman and his batmobile:

  • Former American Idol contestant Clay Aiken was declared the winner of the North Carolina Democratic Congressional Primary days after his opponent was found dead. I’m not saying that Clay had anything to do with the death, but maybe Ruben Studdard so be counting his blessings.
  • The slow jams are back! This time they do the Chip N Dale Rescue Rangers theme song:

  • I’m not sure why anyone made this, but watch kids re-enact a scene from Kill Bill:

  • Speaking of rides – check out the new Harry Potter ride at Universal Studios:

  • This is new to me, brought to my attention by readers Art and Angela, and it is one of the funniest things that I’ve seen in a long time: A bad lip reading of Game of Thrones:

  • Watch Michael Fassbender, Hugh Jackman and James McAvoy dance to “Blurred Lines:”

  • Andy Cohen, Connie Chung and Maury Povich re-enact a scene from Maury:

  • Bill Murray does a promo for the Toledo Mud Hen’s Ghostbusters themed night:

  • This cruise ship plays “Seven Nation Army” on their horn:

  • Chuy, Chelsea Handler’s little person sidekick on Chelsea Lately, has starred in an adult film (not a link to the film!). If I have to live with that knowledge, so do you

As always, we end with the mashups and supercuts:

  • Frozen re-cut as a horror movie:

  • The Cookie of OZ:

  • Al Sharpton mispronounces a lot of words:

  • Hear Madonna’s “Like a Prayer” done in the style of 1940s swing:

  • The inevitable Law & Order/Game of Thrones mashup (spoilers if you aren’t current):

  • Relive 90s music with this supercut:

  • I love this Game of Thrones/The Wire mashup:

  • And finally – Super Mario World gets a Game of Thrones intro:
