Pop Culture Odds and Ends -Ice, Ice Baby Edition

I really need to move to a warmer climate.

We’re in day 2 of the wintery mix that has descended upon much of the East Coast and I’m pretty much over it. This wouldn’t be so bad if it was just snow, but we’re getting the deluxe snow/rain/freezing rain package that no one ordered, so it just a big slushy mess out there. There’s nothing like briefly losing control of your car because of ice to kick off your day. This was definitely not the time to find out that my tried and true winter boots need to be put out to pasture; whatever waterproof superpowers that they once had have since evaporated. You’d think after over three decades in this climate I’d be used to it by now, but clearly I am not.

However, this weather does have some benefits; because I don’t like driving in the stuff, I tend to stay close to home and I have plenty of time to catch up on all the stuff I was too busy to watch earlier in the year. I’ve already polished off the Sundance series An Honorable Woman (excellent) and my DVR is hovering at 11% for the first time in months. This also gives me plenty of times to surf the web in search of nuggets of pop culture goodness for the roundup, which means for the first time in forever I actually had to trim down this post because it was too long. Unheard of!

So while I go out in search of a new pair of boots, enjoy the fruits of my labors by perusing this week’s pop culture odds and ends.
