When Happy Gilmore came out in 1996 – back when Adam Sandler movies were actually funny – one of the most memorable scenes of the movie featured a fight between Sandler’s character and legendary Price is Right host Bob Barker. The juxtaposition of the seemingly mild manner game show host engaged in fisticuffs with a man half his age was tremendously delightful. Of course, we didn’t know as much about Barker as we do now, but even if he isn’t as kindly as we believed, the scene still holds up. It even sparked a catchphrase:
I’ve seen Happy Gilmore more times than I’d like to admit and the movie in general – and this scene specifically – still crack me up. Not surprising given my love of sports movies.
Adam Sandler and Bob Barker reunited for the Night of Too Many Stars special – a fundraiser for autism programs – and their old dynamic resurfaced. These two just can’t get along:
They’ve still got it.
