Pop Culture Odds and Ends – AHS: Cult Edition

Last night American Horror Story debuted their new season, Cult, and as always I tuned in. I have a weird relationship with the American Horror Story franchise – I enjoy the fact that each season has its own special batsh*t crazy vibe, but I usually lose interest in the mess that they have created somewhere around episode 6 when it becomes pretty clear that the series has once again gone off the rails and isn’t going to stick the landing. Yet every season they hit the reset button and faithfully I return, waiting to see what insanity they have up their sleeve.

This season is going to be a challenge for me, since creepy clowns featured pretty prominently in the pilot episode and I am no fan of clowns. One clown I can handle, but once you start introducing multiple clowns I start to get more and more anxious. Between AHS: Cult and the It remake both debuting , it is a banner week for the creepy clown industry. I have to say that I was a little bored with the AHS: Cult premiere; I’ll give it a few episodes, but I’m just not loving the post-election horror story so far. We’ll see how it plays out.

While I contemplate seeking treatment for coulrophobia, catch yourself up on the pop culture that you might have missed with this week’s roundup.

Pop Culture Odds and Ends – Taking Off Early Edition

Today is a good day because I am leaving work a little early. It doesn’t matter that it’s only two hours early or that I generally work through lunch so it’s really only an hour early. I’ve taken a grand total of three vacation days this year and they were all in May, so one could say that I’m a little burned out. I celebrate the days that I actually get out of work on time, so being able to stroll out of here early is like a grand celebration.

So while I watch the clock today and pray to whatever deity that will make sure that I actually do get to leave on time, get yourself caught up on what you might have missed with this week’s pop culture roundup.

Pop Culture Odds and Ends – Pumpkin Spice Overload Edition

When people know that you like or collect something, you tend to get gifts related to that particular thing. Since my love of pumpkin/pumpkin spice flavored everything is well known, I’d say that 80% of the gifts that I received for my birthday were somehow pumpkin-inspired. Add that to the fact that every time that I go to the store I see a new pumpkin spice product and I am pretty much immersed in all things pumpkin. This is not a bad thing; so far I haven’t burned myself out on it, but check back with me in November when I’m going through the motions. So far today I’ve had pumpkin spice coffee and pumpkin spice oatmeal and my day has just begun. Yes, I realize that between this and my brunch obsession that I am really hurting my street cred.

If pumpkin turns out to be some sort of cure for cancer or the magic elixir that makes people immortal, I’m in very good shape. Dorian Gray had his portrait; I have copious amounts of pumpkin spice products stockpiled.

What else do I have a lot of? Pop culture news! It’s time to share that with you with this edition of the roundup. So while I look into pumpkin spice detox programs, get yourself caught up on all the pop culture that you might have missed.
