Pop Culture Odds and Ends – Game of Thrones is Coming Edition

Thank goodness – the long national nightmare of waiting for Game of Thrones to return is almost over. I always say that the fastest 10 weeks of the year are when Game of Thrones is on and then time seems to stand still until the next new season. This year has been a particularly brutal wait, as the new episodes are starting much later in the year than normal. That legitimately hurt my heart. But now we’re T-minus 4 days and I’m practically giddy with anticipation. I’m going away this weekend, but you better believe that I’ll be back in time to be in front of my TV at 9 pm sharp, hopefully with a glass of the new Ommegang Game of Thrones beer in my hand. This is nonnegotiable, so I hope Amtrak understands that if there are any delays Sunday they may have their own Red Wedding situation on their hands.

But it isn’t Sunday yet, which means that my attention is still focused on giving you the best pop culture roundup possible. As always, I’ve searched high and low to bring you the best that the world of pop culture has to offer. So while you countdown to the time when we are all transported back to Westeros, see what pop culture goodness that you might have missed in the last seven days.

Pop Culture Odds and Ends – True Detective Edition

Last night I finally got the chance to catch up on the first three episodes of the new season of True Detective; I’ve been so busy that I didn’t get around to watching it when it first debuted and the episodes started to pile up on my DVR. The buzz around this season has not been great, so I was also kind of putting off watching it out of fear of being disappointed. Having actually finally getting myself up to date, I’m not sure what people have been so salty about. It’s different than the first season, which is what I think bothers people the most. Gone is some of the mysticism and potential supernatural elements that were peppered in the first season, which to me is a welcome modification. I don’t necessarily think that the new season is as good as the first season, but I don’t think that it’s bad either. It’s perfectly entertaining television and the mere fact that Taylor Kitsch is back to being a regular part of my life is reason enough for celebration. #Texasforever

Also reason for celebration…..it’s time for another pop culture roundup. I’ve searched high and low to assemble all of the pop culture that you may have missed in the last seven days. No mystery here – just lots of nuggets of info about movies, television and music. So kick back and fully immerse yourself in the world of pop.

Pop Culture Odds and Ends – Administrative Professionals’ Day Edition

Today is also Earth Day and while I’m definitely pro-Earth, as someone that has served some time as an Executive Assistant, Administrative Professionals’ Day is near and dear to my heart. Most Admins are the reason that most things get done, yet the often get very little recognition, so I think it’s nice that there is a day to pay tribute to all their efforts. Of course, most admins probably wind up buying their own flowers or reminding their bosses to take them out to lunch or the day goes by without comment, but they honestly deserve better. There are two people that you should become friendly with at any organization – the maintenance people and the Admins. They are the people that get shit done and they can make your life a whole lot easier or a whole lot more difficult. So be extra nice to any admins that you see today; they are the unsung heroes and probably put up with a lot of nonsense on a daily basis. Trust me on that.

Now on to the pop culture; once again this week I’ve cultivated the best that the web has to offer to catch you up on anything that you might have missed. No Admins were harmed in the creation of this roundup.

  • A Full House reboot is coming to Netflix (I told you that they weren’t fooling around).
