Pop Culture Odds and Ends – Three in a Row Edition

Holy smokes – three blog posts in three days! It’s like a blogging renaissance. I haven’t done this since the heady early days when I used to blog five days a week. LOL – don’t expect this frequency to continue; soon enough, I’m sure I’ll slow down to a more manageable schedule. But right now I have a backlog of content and since I’ve given myself permission to blog less I find that I’m actually enjoying it more. Funny how that works out.

Of course one blog post that I always look forward to doing is the weekly pop culture roundup. Now that the holidays are over, the pop culture business has picked up steam and there’s a lot more going on. So get yourself caught up on everything that you might have missed with this look at the week in pop.

Pop Culture Odds and Ends – Be Careful What You Wish For Edition

So after a few weeks of complaining that I’ve had nothing to do, my social calendar has suddenly kicked into high gear in the last week. Since the 4th of July weekend, I’ve been pretty busy and there isn’t much of a slowdown in sight. I’ll be away back to back weekends and then, after a short respite, I’ll be off to Atlanta and then Washington DC. I’m thrilled to be busy, but I’d forgotten how exhausting it can be to be, in the words of Hamilton, non-stop. I’ll take a little fatigue over boredom any day, however; it’s good to be back in the groove of my crazy hectic life.

The world of pop culture also seems to be kicking into high gear as it bounces back from a slow holiday weekend. Pokemon Go certainly has helped (signs that I’m old – I refuse to play the game because I’m worried about using up my data); my office is across from the biggest park in the city, which it is apparently a hotbed for Pokemon hunting based on the sudden uptick of people I see out there wandering around with their cell phones. So if you’ve fallen behind on the rest of the pop culture while you out there trying to capture Pidgey or Jigglypuff ( I looked those up), the roundup is hear to get you all caught up.

Pop Culture Odds and Ends – Peak TV edition

There’s been a lot of talk lately about how there is too much quality television available currently. I kind of scoffed at that notion until recently, as I find myself unable to keep up with or try all the shows that I want to watch. Now, I watch a lot of TV – way more than your average bear – so when I am struggling to keep abreast of all the television options, there’s a legitimate overabundance. As it is now, I feel like some days that I am barely keeping me head above water on the shows that I do normally watch; my DVR is constantly hovering at the 40-50% mark and for someone with pop culture OCD like me, that is unheard of. I’m hoping that as some shows wrap up their seasons I’ll be able to catch up and branch out more, but I just don’t know if that’s going to happen. Right now, I have a very long list of shows that I want to watch and have just not been able to find the time for: Daredevil‘s second season, My Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, Hap and Leonard (the whole season is on my DVR), Bloodlines, Narcos, Catastrophe, Transparent, Outlander, The Knick, and probably many more that didn’t immediately come to mind. I blame Netflix for this – they are cranking out shows way too quickly. I need to take some time off from work just to get caught up. I’m even falling behind at the movies as well – I still haven’t seen Batman v Superman, though I don’t feel too badly about this as I’m sure I’m not going to like it. This is a nightmare. #firstworldproblems

So while I ponder how to be able to watch TV all day and still bring in a paycheck, get yourself caught up on some of the pop culture that you might have missed in the last week.
