Pop Culture Odds and Ends – Ho Ho Ho Edition

One of the luxuries of having a small family is that I don’t have that many people to shop for, so I’ve basically been done with my Christmas shopping since the end of November. But now we enter the phase that I hate – the wrapping of the presents. Everything that I have purchased is sitting in my living room, quietly taunting me and begging to be prettied up with festive paper.  I blame the cat for putting off wrapping – and admittedly he does get in the way – but it really is my least favorite part of gift giving.  Everything is relatively boxy this year, so it isn’t even much of a challenge, and yet I’ve been kicking this particular task down the road for weeks. If it wasn’t for the fact that my nephew seems to enjoy unwrapping gifts everyone might have been receiving their present in gift bags (best case scenario) or plastic bags from the store (which I am pretty sure I have done in the past). I need an elf.

So while I try to see if I even have tape, get yourself caught up on the pop culture that you might have missed with this week’s roundup.

Pop Culture Odds and Ends – Halloween Hangover Edition

I am not actually hungover from Halloween – I didn’t do much of anything to celebrate the day. I like Halloween a lot – what’s not to like about a holiday that centers around free candy? – but I didn’t have the energy to do much of anything other than pain my nails in a festive way.

2017-10-31 09.48.28

I did get a visit from my first trick or treater in over a decade; my baby nephew paid a visit to show off his third Halloween costume. That kid is the Diana Ross of Halloween. I didn’t even watch any scary movies. I did manage to swing by the store early this morning before work to try and stock up on some discounted candy, but sadly the pickings were kind of slim. Christmas candy was already out; there is no time to dwell on the ghosts of holidays past.

So I rely on my co-workers to bring in their kids’ candy, get yourself caught up on all the pop culture that you might have missed with this week’s roundup.

Pop Culture Odds and Ends – Back from Vacation Edition

I have returned from my quick little getaway and reality was absolutely waiting for me when I did. I was only out of the office for three days, but that was apparently enough time for people to save up all their crazy until I got back. I had a pounding headache within two hours of being back in the office. At least this makes me appreciate my vacation all the more – I had five basically uninterrupted days of minimal responsibility. I really should take days off more often.

Because I just got back, this week’s pop culture roundup might not be as comprehensive as other weeks. I’m still catching up on things, so there may be some things that I missed. I think I hit all the high notes, though, so you shouldn’t feel too deprived. You’re still getting your money’s worth 🙂
