Pop Culture Odds and Ends – Pumpkin Spice edition

Every August, while everyone else is trying to make the most of what’s left of the summer, I’m anxiously anticipating what I consider the herald of better days – the arrival of pumpkin spice season. This has been especially true this year, since my summer kind of stunk. I have no idea what this autumn will bring, but whatever it is will be vastly improved by sipping some pumpkin coffee and beer and discovering all the new ridiculous ways that companies are cashing in on the popularity of the pumpkin spice trend. I had my first pumpkin coffee on August 21st and I will rid this pony as long as I can. Then the dreaded peppermint season commences and I can go back to being miserable.

So while I settle in to being basic for the next few months, get yourself caught up on all the pop culture that you might have missed  in the last week.

Pop Culture Odds and Ends – Taking Off Early Edition

Today is a good day because I am leaving work a little early. It doesn’t matter that it’s only two hours early or that I generally work through lunch so it’s really only an hour early. I’ve taken a grand total of three vacation days this year and they were all in May, so one could say that I’m a little burned out. I celebrate the days that I actually get out of work on time, so being able to stroll out of here early is like a grand celebration.

So while I watch the clock today and pray to whatever deity that will make sure that I actually do get to leave on time, get yourself caught up on what you might have missed with this week’s pop culture roundup.

Pop Culture Odds and Ends – Momentary Distraction Edition

It seems kind of trivial to be writing about pop culture with all that has been going on in the United States in the last week. I know this. But as important as it is to be paying attention and to engage, people also need temporary refuge from the news and reality. So I offer up this week’s pop culture roundup as a momentary distraction, a break from the very ugly world in which we are living in.
